Every year SSC i.e. Staff Selection Commission conducts Junior Engineer examinations in many branches like Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical. Through this national-level examination, junior engineers are recruited in many government departments. Millions of candidates take the SSC exam for some thousands of posts every year.
Criteria for SSC Junior Engineer (JAI) Examination
For the post of Junior Engineer Civil in the Central Water Commission Department, you must have completed a Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University Institute.
Applicants should have for the position of Junior Engineer Civil in the Central Public Works Department, you must have a Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized University or Institution.
For the post of Junior Engineer Civil in the Post Department, you must have a 3-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a Central or State Government recognized institute.
Applicants should have for the post of Junior Engineer Electrical in the Central Public Works Department, you must have a Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University Board or Institution.
For the position of Junior Engineer Electrical in the Farakka Barrage Project, you must have a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University Board or Institution.
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University or Board, for Junior Mechanical Engineer at Central Water Power Research Station.
For the quantity survey Junior Engineer in Military Engineer Service, Contract Positions Must has completed 3 years Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized University Institute or Board.
Age limit of SSC JE exam
The age limit for becoming a Junior Engineer through SSC is 18 to 32 years according to different posts. There is also relaxation in these and above limits which are 5 years for SC or ST candidates, 3 years for OBCs, and many other categories like 10 years for PWD candidates
SSC JE Eligibility Nationality
Citizens of India or Bhutan and Nepal are also eligible to apply for SSC JE. Tibetan refugees may also be eligible for full-blown satin conditions.
Individuals of Indian descent who have migrated from countries such as Verma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, East African countries, Malawi and Ethiopia and have settled permanently in India will also be eligible.
SSC JE Test Pattern
There are 2 papers in this test. The first paper is a computer-based test i.e. online. Multiple choice questions are asked in it. The question paper of this paper number 200 is 2 hours. Its test languages are both English and Hindi. This paper also has negative markings. This paper sleeps in 3 sections:
- First, General Intelligence,
- Second, General Awareness, and
- Third, General engineering
In this, you have to choose between Civil Engineering and Electrical stream.
Sections 1 and 2 have 50-50 questions and section 3 has 100 questions.
This paper is offline. It is a descriptive paper, it carries 300 marks and its duration is 2 hours. Its language is both English and Hindi. Candidates who clean the paper first can give two papers so that the best questions are asked in the engineering specialization of the candidate.
There is no negative marketing. Candidates who cleared the second paper for final selection are shortlisted. The final selection is based on the reserved numbers of the first and second letters by the candidate, and the final assignment is made on the basis of the merits of the user category.
SSC JE Salary
SSC JE’s salary can range from ₹ 35400 to ₹ 112400. Apart from this, SSC JE also gets a medical allowance, HRA, travel allowance, and fearless allowance.

How to become RRB Junior Engineer after Diploma
RRB Junior Engineer (JE)
The RRB i.e. Railway Recruitment Boards also conduct RRB JE examinations at the all-India level every year for Central Government jobs. The RRB JE exam is conducted in the posts of:
Junior Engineer in IT,
Depot Material Superintendent i.e. DMS,
Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant i.e. CMA Junior Engineer.
Criteria for RRB Junior Engineer (JE) Examination
Applicants for the post of Junior Engineer should have one year of Civil Engineering, Mechanical, Production, Automobile, Electrical, Electronic, Instrumentation, and Control Engineering, Tools and Machinery, Computer.
Candidates with B.Sc in Civil Engineering can also take this exam. The junior engineer has to complete PGDCA for IT or B.Sc Computer Science, BCA B.Tech in Information Technology, B.Tech in Computer Science, and 3 years DOEACC B level course.
To apply for a DMS, one must have a 3-year diploma in engineering and a BSc degree with a score in Physics and Chemistry for the CMA.
Citizenship and Age Limit for RRB JE Exam
To be eligible for this exam, the candidate must have citizenship in India, Bhutan, or Nepal. His age should be between 18 to 33 years, in which age relaxation is also given.
RRB JE Test Pattern
This test has three statuses, the first is CBT-1, the second is CBT-2 and the third is Document Verification. After that, the candidate has to pass the medical examination.
CBT-1 i.e. computer-based test has 100 multiple-choice questions. This research paper is divided into four sections: Mathematics, General Science, General Awareness, and General Intelligence and Reasoning.
The duration of this test is 90 minutes, it also has negative marketing and cbt2 can be given by qualifying for the test.
Multiple-choice questions are also asked in CBT2. This test has a total of 150 questions and its duration is 120 minutes. This research paper consists of 5 sections: technical capabilities, physics and chemistry, general awareness, the basics of computers and their application, and the basics of environment and pollution control.
Most of the questions asked in CBT2 are from technical ability and this paper has B negative marking. After this test, if your name appears on the merit list, you will need to pass a medical test with document verification. After that, you will be selected.
RRB JE Salary
The salary of an RRB JE during training is Rs.34,500. Where the salary is fixed at Rs.42,000 per month. Apart from this, there are many allowances:

Based on experience, a Junior Engineer may be promoted to the rank of Senior Engineer, Senior Section Engineer, Assistant Divisional Manager, Divisional Engineer, and Senior Divisional Engineer after some time.
