Mikhail Gorbachev has died at  91

He was born in 1931 in Privolnoye, a village in southern Russia.

He was a former Soviet leader

He was a young star in the Communist Party

Mikhail Gorbachev played a central role in ending the Cold War

Reports suggest that he died of a "serious and prolonged illness".

Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990, he was seen as a visionary abroad, including by President Ronald Reagan.

He also wrote a book called "What Is At Steak Now" in 2020
